Our Mission
Lifting Voices is a nonprofit, grassroots organization which helps young people discover and share their voices in order to grow, find joy, and accomplish change. Lifting Voices conducts writing workshops, gathers oral history on contemporary social issues, and provides youth perspectives to policy makers and the community as a whole.
Our Vision
Our vision is that the words of young people will heal, inspire, and instruct families, communities, and people in power.
Our Big Idea
We believe that devaluing the thinking of young people in under-served communities has led to their inability to think critically. We take two steps to solve this problem.
Step one: teach under-served young people thinking skills through writing.
Step two: create markets for their thought.
