ADVANCING MENTAL WELLBEING FOR EVERY CHILD AND FAMILY

Lifting Voices logo

We're working to improve health outcomes and quality of life for all youth with mental health needs and their families through meaningful, actionable, change.

Our Goals

We're working to transform the children's mental health system and care delivery that meets these key goals.

  1. Unite and elevate our voices to support others who have children with mental health needs.

  2. Elevate and promote access to best practices that we have found to work and know should be available to every child.

  3. Promote parity between the public and private systems of care and parity between behavioral health and medical coverage for children and youth with mental health and substance use disorder.

  4. Reduce stigma and improve how children, youth and parents are actually treated within the behavioral health care system.

  5. Remove barriers to coverage and access.

  6. Improve quality of care.

  7. Advance whole-person, person-centered care that is individualized for every child and their family.

  8. Advance access to care that includes both non-clinical supports and services and clinical, evidence-based interventions from infancy through adulthood and across a robust continuum of care.

Our Principles

We believe it's imperative for youth and their families that we transform our mental health system to embody these key principles.

  1. Respect for the lived experience of youth with mental health needs, including substance use disorders, and their families.

  2. Right to person-centered care addressing whole-person and whole family needs.

  3. Equal access to care, regardless of any physical health, mental health, substance use disorder, and insurance status.

  4. The system must do no harm.

  5. No discrimination of any kind.

Actions & Objectives

We believe it's imperative for youth and their families that we transform our mental health system to embody these key principles.

  1. Build a diverse network of parent, professional, and peer advocates.

  2. Replicate our survey and focus groups.

  3. Design, develop, and implement a State Scorecard on Mental Health for Children and Families through a process guided by an expert advisory panel consisting of youth and families with lived experience and other experts.

  4. Support state transformation and redesign.

  5. Analyze policy options for coverage expansion to support state efforts to promote improved parity between Medicaid and commercially insured services. Activate family and consultants, to create platforms for rapid action and youth and family driven, and to access consultants for a range of services, such as training, collecting stories, elevating voices, creating action, and building out the care continuum.
